            About Mr. Meikel

            Howdy!

            Mr. Meikel here, and welcome to the Shepardson Elementary Art webpage!  While Shepardson is a S.T.E.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics) school, we have not forgotten how important the Visual Arts are in the overall education of our students.  Math, Social Studies, Science, Technology and all the other core subjects, Art is the subject that brings them all together.

            At Shepardson, I strive to provide a comprehensive, but most importantly...fun Art program for our students!  Over time, students will create a wide variety of projects using a wide range of media in the following format:

            Introduction:
            • Usually a Powerpoint presentation introducting the new topic to students. Giving a background and history of what is about to be done.
            Practice(s):
            • These can range from worksheets to smaller projects that get us ready for the final
            Final:
            • Students now use the techniques they've learned to create their final work of Art for the unit.

            Art FAQ:

            Q: Mr. Meikel, why is my student bring home a lot of drawing/coloring pages and not his Art projects?

            A: I tend to hold onto projects over the year to use in Art shows and special events.  Also, I like to break up projects into small stages as to keep everyone one on the same page every week.  So once your child has finished their task for the day and if they have a little free time until the end of class, then they are welcome to do what we call "Free draw/Free coloring pages".  These they are free to take home at the end of class, so this is why you see a great many of these.  Rest assured these are not the assignment!  Just something to do when they are done with their work for the day.

            Q: Mr. Meikel, when are Art shows and special events?
            A: I will put those time's and dates on this webpage, but also send home filers and make calls to home to assure everyone knows when these special dates are.

            Q: Mr. Meikel, how can I help in the Art room or help with anything going with Shepardson's Art program?
